The Chilean authorities established a quarantine at the Santiago Sur Preventive Detention Center, known as the former Penitentiary, after reporting 217 positive people for Covid-19.
Chile begins vaccination against Covid-19 with the fourth dose
According to local media, visits to the campus by relatives and lawyers were suspended, while 24,970 new cases and 133,080 active cases of said disease were identified in the country on Tuesday.
Deaths from the coronavirus have reached 40,087 people since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, while only in the current month there have been 818 total deaths from SARS-CoV-2.

This Tuesday the Ministry of Health reported 27 new deaths. Similarly, the report presented by the health portfolio stated that in terms of Intensive Care Units (ICU), 652 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, of which 528 are supported by mechanical ventilation.
The total number of people who have been diagnosed with Covid -19 in the country reaches 2,431,845 and according to the weekly count of the Ministry of Health, 303 deaths were registered.
On January 20, a Chilean media outlet warned about the situation of prisoners in Chile and reported that in various penitentiaries in the country, people deprived of their liberty spend up to 20 hours without food and must share beds.
