Lacey and Daniel Rawlings were sentenced by a Gila County judge after the accident they suffered in which two of their children and a niece lost their lives. The sentence that corresponds to Lacey is on four years of probation and community service, for Daniel is five years probation.
The judge made this decision after the Rawlings couple stated that they were responsible for all charges. Daniel, 38, pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and seven counts of child abuse, while Lacey, 34, was charged only with child abuse.
One of the reasons for the judge to determine his sentence was that two of the children who died in the accident were the couple's children. Also present in the courtroom was Lauren Johnston, mother of Austin Rawlings, one of the victims, and Lacey and Daniel's niece.
The accident happened in 2019, when the Rawlings family were returning from a family reunion. 7 children were traveling in the vehicle, including the children of Lacey and Daniel. Ignoring the noted warnings, decided to cross through an area flooded by rains in the Tonto Creek area, causing three children to drown.
