Thousands of Paraguayans mobilized on Friday through the country’s capital, Asunción, in tribute to anti-drug prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, assassinated last Tuesday in the Colombian city of Cartagena.

The march was led by the state attorney general, Sandra Quiñonez, and several judicial officials from the South American country who repudiated the murder of prosecutor Pecci.

The remains of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci will arrive in Paraguay on Saturday for his funeral and subsequent burial.

President Mario Abdo Benítez decreed on Friday three days of mourning for the murder of the anti-drug prosecutor of Paraguay.

The 45-year-old prosecutor fell victim to three gunshots on the last day of his honeymoon at the hands of two assassins in the city of Cartagena, Colombia.

Marcelo Pecci was carrying out legal proceedings against several Paraguayans, Brazilians and Lebanese accused of crimes and drug trafficking.
