'Papu' Gómez, world champion with Argentina, suspended for two years for doping
The Argentine striker Alejandro 'Papu' Gomezwho plays for Italian club Monza, was suspended for two years for doping, the Serie A club reported on Friday.
The 35-year-old, who joined Monza as a free agent at the end of September, was part of the Argentine team that won the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
AC Monza announces that today, October 20, 2023, FIFA has notified the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission of the first instance resolution of the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission against the player Alejandro Darío Gómez.
The club also indicated that the presence of terbutaline, a medication taken to calm a bronchospasm crisis, was found in the player's sample.
The positive result occurred in October 2022, when Gómez was playing for Sevilla.
