El papa Francisco arribó este miércoles a Lisboa para participar en la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud luego de haber sido recibido en la base aérea de Figo Maduro por el presidente portugués, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

El pontífice, que estará en la nación lusa hasta el próximo domingo, se reunirá esta jornada con el primer ministro, Antonio Costa y visitará varios sitios como el santuario de Fátima.
“Les pido que me acompañen con la oración en mi viaje a Portugal con ocasión de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. A la Virgen María, estrella luminosa del camino cristiano, tan venerada en Portugal, encomiendo los peregrinos de la JMJ y todos los jóvenes del mundo”, publicó Francisco en su cuenta de Twitter.
El jefe de Estado del Vaticano pronunciará su primer discurso en el Centro Cultural de Belém donde sostendrá un encuentro con varias autoridades políticas, la sociedad civil y el cuerpo diplomático.
Miles de jóvenes se congregaron en la plaza de la Rua del Belem para dar la bienvenida al jesuita argentino en el momento que pasó la comitiva papal.
Este que constituye su 42º viaje internacional, resulta el segundo a la nación europea, luego de que en 2017 visitara el país con motivo del centenario de las Apariciones de Nuestra Señora de Fátima.
Por su parte, la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud que acogerá a más de un millón de jóvenes de varios países es el evento más multitudinario de los que organiza la Iglesia católica en pos de facilitar el intercambio de culturas, experiencias e idiomas.
