Panamanian President decrees measures against the lack of drugs | News

The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, decreed two measures on Wednesday to adapt the regulatory, legal and fiscal conditions in order to promote the production of medicines in the country.

In this sense, the head of state pointed out that the targeted measures were proposed by the Technical Table for Medications, to guarantee access to safe drugs for the entire population; in addition to strengthening the process to correct shortages.
“I have instructed the negotiating team of the Single Dialogue Table for Panama, installed in Penonomé, to report on the progress in the implementation to regulate article 106 of Law 1 of 2001 on medicines,” the entity said.

At the same time, the president asserted that the legislation guides the creation of a subcommittee that determines the drugs that will be included in the emergency list.
According to the vice president, José Gabriel Carrizo, the drug lists under price control do not solve the problem of shortages and costs; however, it is a palliative.

It is worth specifying that the Technical Table of Medications is led by the Vice President of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency, Carrizo; as well as health unions, the private sector, members of the National Assembly, patient associations and the national government.
