The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) condemned on Tuesday the violent actions perpetrated by Israeli soldiers and settlers against civilian populations in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and warned of the consequences of the increase in these incidents in recent months.

Through a statement, the spokesman for the PNA Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeina, blamed the Israeli Army and extremist settlers for attacks on cities, refugee camps and villages such as Hawara, Beita and Surra, in the northern district of Nablus. , which have left dozens of wounded as a result.

"We call on the international community and the Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UN) to intervene urgently in order to provide international protection to the Palestinian people," Abu Rudeineh requested.

At the same time, the government spokesman specified that the Israeli Army takes advantage of the international silence to intensify its crimes and aggressions against Palestine, and makes all of this a campaign issue in the Israeli election process.

Likewise, Abu Rudeineh warned of the danger posed by the call by Jewish extremists to storm the Esplanade of the Mosques, called the Temple Mount by the Jews, and desecrate it next Thursday, during the celebration of a Jewish holiday.

“Islamic and Christian holy sites are a red line, and we will not allow any harm to be done to them. If this Israeli government wants to stop the dangerous escalation taking place in the Palestinian territories, it must stop its crimes and settler attacks,” he stressed.

In this sense, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) requested immediate action to stop the violent actions against civilians and prevent the situation from worsening in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

“It is unacceptable that civilians are injured or killed in these episodes of violence. It is very worrying that children who are in nearby schools witness this level of violence and that too often they are victims of it, "said the leader of the entity's sub-delegation in the West Bank, Arnaud Meffre.

Meffre urged the adoption of measures to protect the civilian population, and assured that the use of force, in all its manifestations, must be done in accordance with the regulations of International Law.

For its part, a report presented last January by the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B'Tselem), warned that the violence of the settlers through physical aggression, threats, damage to crops , blocking roads, among other ways, constitutes a mechanism used by Israel to strengthen its control in the occupied territories.

Official data indicates that at least 490,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank, and another 200,000 live in East Jerusalem since the 1967 war.
