ONU suspende actividad humanitaria tras golpe militar en Níger | Noticias
El Secretario General de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) Antonio Guterres, condenó nuevamente la noche del jueves el golpe de Estado en Níger y confirmó la suspensión de las operaciones humanitarias de la ONU en el país africano por el deterioro de la situación tras la asonada militar.

El diplomático portugués expresó en un comunicado que “condena con firmeza el cambio anticonstitucional” en Níger y confesó su turbación por la detención del presidente depuesto Mohamed Bazoum, arrestado por los golpistas, por lo que exigió su liberación “inmediata y sin condiciones previas”.
Guterres pidió, además, “a todas las partes abstenerse de toda violencia y respetar el estado de derecho”, así como poner fin a cualquier acto de violencia que socave los principios democráticos en Níger.

Por su parte, el portavoz de la ONU, Stéphane Dujarric, destacó la dificil situación humanitaria en la que se encuentra el país. Según datos de la Oficina de Asuntos Humanitarios de la ONU (OCHA) el número de personas necesitadas de ayuda aumentó a 4.3 millones y se estima que 3 millones sufran hambre antes de la próxima cosecha.
"Pese a una temporada agrícola relativamente exitosa en 2022 y los enormes esfuerzos del Gobierno y de sus socios para responder a la crisis humanitaria, 2.5 millones de personas son víctimas de inseguridad alimentaria grave, y este número llegará a los 3 millones entre junio y agosto próximos", precisó OCHA.

El Alto Comisionado de la ONU para los Derechos Humanos, Volker Türk, se unió a las peticiones internacionales por la seguridad del presidente Bazoum. "Los miembros de su Gobierno y sus familiares detenidos arbitrariamente también deben ser liberados inmediatamente y sin condiciones previas", declaró.
Después de Malí y Burkina Faso, Níger, un vasto territorio empobrecido y desértico, es el tercer país del Sahel afectado por ataques terroristas en experimentar un golpe de Estado desde 2020, aunque la Comandancia militar de las Fuerzas Armadas Nigerinas ya mostró su adhesión al golpe para, según dijo, evitar “un baño de sangre”.
Níger sufrió el miércoles un golpe de Estado encabezado por una junta militar, autodenominada Consejo Nacional para la Salvaguardia de la Patria (CLSP), que anunció la destitución del presidente Mohamed Bazoum, la suspensión de las instituciones, el cierre de las fronteras y un toque de queda nocturno hasta nueva orden.
