El secretario general de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), António Guterres, urgió el martes a lo que llamó una acción rápida y contundente de la comunidad internacional para desarmar las pandillas en Haití.

En una carta enviada a la Presidencia del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, Guterres, aseguró este martes que el país caribeño “necesita desplegar una fuerza robusta a través de un despliegue policial multinacional, respaldado por el ejército, para restablecer el orden”.
"Nada que no sea el uso contundente de la fuerza, complementado con un conjunto de medidas no cinéticas, por parte de una fuerza policial multinacional especializada y capaz, apoyada por medios militares y coordinada con la policía nacional, podrá alcanzar estos objetivos", aseveró el secretario general, quien visitó Haití en julio.
Durante un intercambio con reporteros en la sede de la ONU en Nueva York, el portavoz del organismo mundial, Stephane Dujarric, confirmó las palabras del secretario general. “Lo que dijo en la carta es lo mismo que dijo antes: que Haití necesita el apoyo de un fondo multinacional para ayudar a manejar la inseguridad”, explicó Dujarric.
Naciones Unidas ha apoyado la propuesta que hiciera el 31 de julio último el Gobierno de Kenia de comandar una misión internacional de seguridad en Haití.
