One dead, four injured and eight missing is the preliminary balance of the explosion of an oil tanker registered this Tuesday in a shipyard in western Thailand.

According to the authorities of the Thai province of Samut Songkhram, the explosion of the Smooth Sea 22 ship affected several houses near the shipyard.

The emergency teams were able to control the fire caused by the explosion in one hour and at the moment they do not know the cause that caused the explosion of the tanker.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters indicated that at the time of the explosion, the tanker of the oil tanker was empty.

In July 2021, at least one person was killed and 33 injured in an explosion at a chemical factory near the capital, Bangkok, forcing the evacuation of more than 1,800 people.

An explosion left two people injured in November 2014 after an oil tanker exploded, causing a fire that spread to another ship at a port on the Mekong River in northern Thailand.
