Washington.- Former United States President Barack Obama (2009-2017) warned that Israel's military strategy in the Gaza Strip could be "counterproductive" for the future of the Jewish State and the region.

In a long statement about the Gaza war, he expressed his condemnation of the “horrible attack” by the armed wing of Hamas against Israel, claimed that the Jewish State has “the right to defend itself” and applauded the Joe Biden Administration's strategy of support unconditionally to the Israeli Government.

At the same time, he said that it is "important" that Israel respect international law in the war against Hamas in Gaza, avoiding "as much as possible" the death of the civilian population.

He stressed that “the world is closely following developments in the region and any Israeli military strategy that ignores its humanitarian impact could prove counterproductive.”
