In a single day, Nova Scotia received the equivalent of three months' average rainfall. Storms last Friday have flooded the streets of the Canadian province, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate and leaving at least four missing, two of them children.

A state of emergency has been declared throughout the province, an alert that will last until August 5 with the possibility of being extended. At least 19 bridges have been damaged by bad weather, including six that were completely destroyed.

In certain areas of Halifax the situation has been complicated, since the community was in recovery after a severe forest fire that destroyed about 151 houses at the end of May.
