A wildfire swept through 10 acres (4 hectares) Saturday, forcing Maui authorities to evacuate residents of a Lahaina neighborhood a short distance from the recently blazed site before firefighters brought it under control.
Firefighters put out the flames from above using a helicopter and hoses on the ground, said John Heggie, a spokesman for the Maui County Joint Information Center.
Maui County officials said in an Instagram post that the fire no longer poses an active threat, but firefighters are working in the area and evacuees should stay away until it is safe to return.
The evacuation order covered a small number of homes in the hills above the Kaanapali resort hotels. It is currently unknown how many people were affected by the evacuation order.
At least 115 people died and 2,000 structures were destroyed when a wildfire ripped through downtown Lahaina on August 8. Minimal rainfall has plunged the area into a drought.
That fire was exacerbated by strong winds fanned in part by Hurricane Dora, which passed 500 miles (800 kilometers) south of Maui.
The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 3 to 8 mph (4.8 to 12 km/h) for Lahaina on Saturday afternoon.
