NBA: Kyrie Irving requests his departure from the Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving applied this Friday to the Brooklyn Nets be traded before the February 9 NBA transfer market deadline of February 9.

Journalists Adrian Wojnarowskiof ESPNY shamscharaniaof The AthleticThey reported this Friday about Irving's request to the Nets. The base earns 37 million dollars this season and is in his last year of contract.

According to Charania, Irving told the Nets that if there is no trade, he will still leave the New York franchise in the summer as a free agent.

Brooklyn and Irving had negotiated a possible extension of their contract but, having not reached an agreement, the point guard has decided to seek his future away from New York.

Irving's request to leave the Nets has shaken the NBA from top to bottom and there is already speculation about which teams could get his signing in these last days of the market, including the los angeles lakersof LeBron James, a former teammate on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Irving has not shared a list of preferred teams but has maintained an interest in the Lakers. Los Angeles is expected to be among the teams exploring a possible trade with the Nets.

'woj' also ensured that the dallas mavericks of Luka Doncic have already shown interest in Irving in the past and are among the teams that could try a transfer before February 9.

For his part, Charania also referred to the Lakers and Mavericks as possible suitors and added one more: the phoenix suns by Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

This season, Irving is averaging 27.1 points5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.

The 30-year-old base was called to form a fearsome trio in the Nets along with Kevin Durant and James Hardenbut the expectations about this ambitious project were far from reality.

Between injuries, losses and other setbacks, Harden left Brooklyn in 2022 for the 76ers while Durant, despite requesting the transfer last summer, finally decided to stay in Brooklyn.

In total, the trio formed by Durant-Harden-Irving solo shared the track in 16 games and in their only qualifiers they were defeated in the 2021 East semifinals by the Milwaukee Bucks led by Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Irving's career, NBA champion in 2016 with the Cavaliers and an 8-time All-Star, has been marked off the court by major controversies, such as his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus or his promotion of an antisemitic film.
