La NASCAR y Legacy Motor Club suspendió de forma indefinida al piloto Noah Gragson debido a que le dio me gusta a un meme poco sensible con la foto de George Floyd.
“Estoy decepcionado en mi falta de atención y acciones en redes sociales”, publicó Gragson el sábado. “Entiendo la gravedad de la situación. Amo y los aprecio a todos. Intento tratar a todos por igual sin importar quienes son. Lo arruiné, así de simple”.
Floyd, de raza negra, falleció en el 2020 después de que un oficial de policía se arrodilló en su cuello por nueve minutos y medio. Su muerte provocó una serie de protestas masivas en todos el mundo y obligó a Estados Unidos a reconocer las injusticias raciales.
Josh Berry estará en el Chevrolet con el número 42 en su debut en la Copa en la carrera del domingo en Michigan International Speedway en lugar de Gragson.
NASCAR indicó que Gragson violó la conducta de miembros del libro de reglas, pero sin dar detalles.
“Sus acciones no representan los valores del equipo”, indicó Legacy Motor Club en un comunicado.
Gragson, de 25 años y originario de Las Vegas, disputa su primera temporada completa en la Copa de serie y se ubica 33mo en la clasificación de puntos.
