Until now, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has presented their resignation, while the head of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, is expected to resign in the next few days.

Other candidates for the candidacy, such as senators Ricardo Monreal and Manuel Velasco will also request permission to be absent from the upper house, while deputy Gerardo Fernández Noroña will do the same to participate in the internal process of Morena.

The absences of the secretaries forces the president to remake his cabinet one year before the elections to choose his successor.

Alfonso Durazo, governor of Sonora and president of the party's National Council, announced that Claudia Sheinbaum, Ricardo Monreal, Marcelo Ebrard, Adán Augusto López, Manuel Velasco of the Green Party and Fernández Noroña of the Labor Party have until June 16 to present in writing their intention to participate and resign from their current position.

Marcelo Ebrard started the race by being the first to submit his resignation; Adán Augusto López followed him by announcing that he will resign from his post (without setting a date), Monreal will request leave on Friday the 16th and, this Monday, Claudia Sheinbaum reported that she is leaving the head of government.

In this sense, Sheinbaum in a press conference explained that June 16 will be his last day in the central administration, in addition, on June 15 he will carry out an accountability exercise, as well as a meeting with the public.

Pointing out that she seeks to be the first woman president in the country's history, she assured that there are two factors that currently support her to reach the federal position, one that is in first place in the polls, two, according to Inegi 67.7 % of Mexicans are willing to have a female president.

At noon, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, arrived at the National Palace to present his resignation to President López Obrador, where a group of supporters were waiting for him to show their support.

According to various surveys, Sheinbaum leads the preferences to become Morena's candidate in the June 2024 presidential elections, while Ebrard ranks second.
