El presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, recibió este lunes en la Casa Blanca a los Astros de Houston para celebrar el título conquistado por el equipo de Dusty Baker en la temporada 2022 de las Grandes Ligas (MLB).

En un ambiente distendido, Biden celebró el trabajo realizado por los Astros y en particular el del manager Baker, que logró coronarse campeón de la MLB tanto en su carrera de jugador como en la de entrenador.

“Dusty, no fue fácil. La gente no te tenía en cuenta porque decía que ya había pasado tu mejor momento. Bueno, sé algo de esto, sé algo de esto”, dijo Biden entre risas.

Baker, de 74 años, fue campeón de la MLB en 1981 como jugador de los Dodgers de Los Ángeles y se convirtió el año pasado en el entrenador más veterano capaz de ganar el título.

Lo hizo después de perder la Serie Mundial de 2002 con los Dodgers y la de 2021, con los propios Astros contra los Bravos de Atlanta.

Biden también destacó la labor desarrollada por los Astros al servicio de su comunidad y sus importantes iniciativas para sensibilizar y oponerse a la violencia doméstica.

“Estos son los mejores chicos con los que he trabajado. Siempre creyeron en su potencial. La perseverancia ha sido la virtud más importante de mi vida y de la de estos chicos”, afirmó Baker, tras dar las gracias a Biden por la bienvenida.

Finalmente, los Astros entregaron a Biden una camiseta especial de la franquicia texana con su nombre y el dorsal 46. Biden es el presidente número 46 de la historia de Estados Unidos.
