With the symbolic cutting of a ribbon at the official opening ceremony of this election day to elect a new president in this first round, Guatemalan authorities began the elections in the Central American country.

Around 9.3 million Guatemalans are summoned to participate in elections where the vice president and 160 deputies to Congress for the period 2024-2028 will also be defined.

07:00 (13:00 GMT)

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) began the 2023 general elections, with an inauguration ceremony at the Don Bosco Salesian College. In the act the first national vote is carried out. The young María del Rosario was the first Guatemalan to vote for her.

The candidate for the presidency of the Victoria party, Amílcar Rivera, arrives at a polling station in zone 8 of Mixco to cast his vote.
