"Given the complexity of the current situation in which the country finds itself, I present to you my resignation, since, until today, I have directed the Ministry of the Interior and all its agencies, within the framework of legality, privileging in everything moment, respect for human rights,” Barrientos highlighted in the letter.

Social Communication of the Presidency reported that the resignation presented by the minister, Napoleón Barrientos, was received and accepted.
In this context, the Assembly of Indigenous Authorities of Guatemala issued a statement in which it rejected Porras' request to remove Barrientos and called on the population to continue raising their voices “against the abuses and transgressions” of the MP.
