"At this moment, a group of 1,700 members of the Armed Forces and the Ecuadorian Police are intervening in the Litoral Penitentiary to control weapons, ammunition, and explosives," Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso confirmed on the X social network.

“In the framework of the state of emergency, we continue working to remove all weapons from this prison and reduce violence. Until the last day of my government, we will fight crime firmly, sure to act with the weight and force that the Constitution and the laws give us,” he added.

For its part, the Armed Forces specified that the operation is carried out in pavilions 1 and 4 of the Penitentiary of the Coast, which are controlled by the gang Los Latin Kings, as well as in the Deprivation of Liberty Center No. 3 "The rock"

"In the south-west suburban sector of Guayaquil, during a military intervention a subject was apprehended, in his possession the following were confiscated: three firearms (pistol, revolver and shotgun), three feeders (rifle and pistol), 15 ammunition and two motors outboard," reported the military entity.

The new maneuver is carried out after the latest massacre was recorded last month at the Litoral Penitentiary, when 31 prisoners were killed in violent riots.

Based on this, the security forces have carried out several operations, in which firearms, drugs, electrical appliances, cell phones and even a pool of export tilapia have been confiscated.
