Miami Open: Carlos Alcaraz starts his title defense by sweeping | Video

The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the world, started this Friday the defense of the title of the Miami Opensecond Masters 1000 tournament of the season, with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory against the Argentine Facundo Bagnis, 100 world ranking, and advanced to the third round.

Just 64 minutes Alcaraz needed to defeat Bagnis on his return to the track where, last year, he raised the first Masters 1000 of his career to heaven.

The Spaniard, looking to play his fourth final of the year, had a great first set in which he totally dominated and his opponent couldn’t take even one game.

At the beginning of the second set, Bagnis continued without an answer against the world number one, who also broke from the beginning, until he reacted and was equalized at one point at two. However, the defending champion raised his level again to close the victory on the fast track, the first step to extend the 2023 streak in Miami with 15 wins and only one loss.

In the third round, Alcaraz will face off against the Serbian dusan lajovicnumber 74 in the world ranking, who beat the American Maxime Cressy.

The Murcian won the three precedents against Lajovic, including Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires of this year, and, if he advances, he could meet his compatriot Alejandro Davidovich in the round of 16.

On the other hand, heto great surprise was given by the Japanese taro daniel number 97 in the world, who overwhelmed 6-0 and 6-4 to Alexander Zverev, fifteenth in the standings, who still hasn’t found his best version after the very serious ankle injury suffered last year at Roland Garros.

Zverev took a step back after reaching the Round of 16 in Indian Wells, when he surrendered to the Russian Daniel Medvedev.
