Miami is among the 10 cities with the highest organized retail crime

Miami It is in tenth position in 2023 on the national list of the areas most hit by the organized crime in it retail commerceas revealed by the National Retail Federation of the United States (NRF) in his most recent study.

The NRF explained that this classification comes from the National Retail Safety Survey 2023which strives to gather data around the risks and threats posed by organized retail crime, a criminal activity that aims to convert illegally obtained merchandise, cash, shipments, or their cash equivalents for profit.

The survey took into account the contribution of 177 retail brands, representative of the annual retail sales in 2022which represents one of the highest sales volumes and with more than 97 thousand locations spread throughout the nation. These companies were invited to detail their loss percentages in order to develop this list of the metropolitan areas most affected by the organized crime.

The criminal groups In the retail sector they tend to focus on specific goods. The survey notes that in recent years there has been an expansion in the variety of items selected by these groups, ranging from high-end products to everyday products with the capacity for quick resale.

It is important to note that this is not the first time that Miami appears on this list. In fact, the city fell five positions compared to the 2021 figures, where it was in fifth position. In 2019, Miami was ranked third on the NRF list.
