Mexican health authorities confirmed on Sunday the first three cases of the simultaneous flu and coronavirus infection known as flurone.

Cases of flurone were detected in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit in western Mexico.
The head of the Emerging and Remerging Diseases Diagnosis Laboratory of the University of Guadalajara (UDG), Alejandra Natali Vega Magaña, confirmed the first two cases in the state of Jalisco.
Vega Magaña assured that the co-infection of these two patients, of whom he did not specify age or sex, has been mild as they do not present strong symptoms.
For his part, the health secretary of the state of Nayarit, José Francisco Munguía Pérez, confirmed the third case of “flurone” in Mexico, detected in a 28-year-old woman.
He explained that the case was reported in the capital of the state Tepic, along with the detection of the first case of the Ómicron variant of coronavirus in that same town.
Mexico is the second country in Latin America that has reported cases of flurone, Brazil was the first in the region to detect a case of this type on January 6.
