Mexico registered a record number in the number of refugee applications in 2021, the main applicants being Haitian migrants, the head of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (Comar), Andrés Ramírez, reported on Monday.

“The main nationalities (who requested refuge) were Haitians, Hondurans for a long time, and later Cubans,” the official said in an interview with Reuters.

Around the figure for 2021, he explained that 72% received a positive response to their process and another 2% were also granted complementary protection.
