Mexico has rescued more than 73,000 migrants during 2022 | News
The National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico indicated on Wednesday that during 2022, 73,034 migrants with irregular stay in the country have been rescued.
They detain more than 5,000 migrants in the last week in Mexico
According to the INM, it carried out several massive rescues between January 1 and March 8, in which it identified more than 50 migrants held in safe houses, vehicles used for tourism and others intended for cargo transport.
Among the rescued migrants there were 11,565 minors, of which 2,259 are unaccompanied children and adolescents.
According to the INM, the majority of the rescued migrants came from Guatemala (14,095), Honduras (13,867) and El Salvador (4,145), while the remaining 40,927 migrants correspond to other countries in the Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia.
Throughout 2022, the immigration entity deported 82,627 migrants to their countries of origin, while the number of migrants detained by US authorities between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021 reached the historical maximum with 1,734,686 arrests.
More than 131,000 migrants applied for refuge in Mexico from January to November 2021, which represented an increase of 300 percent over the previous year’s applications.
