“Tomorrow at 10 am, the second flight of the rescue operation for compatriots from Ukraine ordered by President López Obrador takes off. It carries 1.5 tons of sleeping mats and medicine for refugees in Romania. Thank you Sedena and the Mexican Air Force! ”, The foreign minister published on his official Twitter account.

The first flight was made last Friday, when 44 nationals and 28 Ukrainians were transferred to Mexican territory.

In the first week of March, the evacuees, mostly Mexicans, settled in the humanitarian aid camp located in the Romanian city of Siret, and then continue their journey to the capital, Bucharest, from where they are transferred to their country.

In the use of diplomatic mechanisms to evacuate citizens, the Mexican ambassadors in Ukraine, Olga García Guillén, and in Romania, Guillermo Ordorica, have played a prominent role, in addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, pointed out this Thursday that if the situation required it, this evacuation process could be applied in Russia to support his compatriots.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, several members of the Mexican community, mostly residents of the capital, Kiev, have asked the Mexican government for their safe and organized evacuation.
