The Mexican team equalized goalless against the United States. Despite the lack of the main element in soccer, quality was present in the Azteca Stadium. USMNT midfielder Giovanni Alejandro Reyna danced for Mexican soccer players in the very style of Diego Armando Maradona.
In 1986 Diego Armando Maradona outwitted the English; in 2022 Giovanni Alejandro Reyna did the same with Mexicans. Despite not having finished in goal, the Borussia Dortmund player shone at the Azteca Stadium and left up to six El Tri rivals watered.
“It was a good game by Gio, when he reaches one hundred physically he will contribute more things, but today he had a round game. It’s exciting when you look at our squad and how much it can improve. See Gio outwitting rivals I had images in my head about Maradona’s goal in the 1986 World Cup”, recalled Gregg Berhalter, the United States coach, after the game.
Giovanni Reyna is not in optimal conditions
Despite having made a move in the style of Maradona, Gregg Berhalter acknowledged that he expects more from his player when he is fully fit.
“I had visions of it while Gio was haggling. Unfortunately, she didn’t get a chance to finish off. He has a lot of quality in attack, when he is one hundred he will contribute more things”, concluded the American strategist.
