Mexican cartels trafficked synthetic drugs to drug traffickers in Canada
Canadian authorities dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking, which had links with Mexican cartels.
Agents from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team raided and charged fifteen suspected criminal operatorsafter a cross-border investigation that began in 2020, under the code “Cobra Project”.
Police officers seized narcotics with a value of 55 million Canadian dollars (810 million pesos), as well as a mansion in front of a lake and luxury carsincluding two Lamborghinis and a Porsche.
In the operation, 928 kilograms of methamphetamine and six kilograms of cocaine. Also an arsenal was seized of nineteen firearms, made up of pistols, rifles, machine guns and silencers.
“Fifteen people and one company have been charged with 80 criminal offenses ranging from involvement in a criminal organization to the importation of a controlled substance, the laundering of the proceeds of crime and the drug traffic”, Canadian authorities reported in a statement.
The main investigator of the case, Tara McNeil, declared to the Canadian press that the drugs seized were destined for the "streets of Calgary" and throughout the province, and that they had been produced by mexican posters.
