According to the INM, the caravan was made up of more than 300 people who left the city of Tapachula, on the border with Guatemala.
The INM pointed out that in an operation carried out early on Friday by the National Guard and the State Police, a first contingent of 281 migrants was identified who were marching along a highway in the area.
"In a parallel action on secondary roads of the perimeter, a second group made up of 38 migrants of different nationalities was located," the INM reported in a press release.
According to the INM, the migrants of legal age were transferred to the migratory headquarters in the state of Chiapas, while the minors remained under the tutelage of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF).
The Mexican government reported that it would proceed to review the immigration status of the more than 300 migrants held.
Throughout 2021, the Mexican authorities carried out 446 rescues of migrants in 21 states of the country. In these operations, the agents identified 35,143 migrants of different nationalities.
Migrant rescues are part of the Mexican government's strategy to address the migratory flow and human trafficking.
The phenomenon of migrant caravans with the intention of reaching the US through Mexico began at the end of 2018 and continued in the first months of last year.
