Multiple people were taken into custody a day after a shooting in a Maryland high school parking lot after dismissal, police announced Wednesday. At least one 16-year-old student was injured in the shooting, Baltimore County police said in a news release.
A school resource officer reported the shooting in the rear parking lot of Catonsville High School around 3 pm, about 45 minutes after classes ended, police said. A 16-year-old boy, a student at the school, was taken to an area trauma center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Detectives believe it was a targeted shooting stemming from an argument that started earlier that day off school property, police said.
Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said officers entered the school and cleared the building to make sure there were no threats, news outlets reported.
Police said Wednesday that the community could expect to see additional officers in and around the school as the investigation continued.
