A 13-year-old Maryland boy has died after being shot outside his home while raking leaves.

The Washington Post reports Juanita Agnew, who is the boy's mother, said her son Jayz Agnew died Friday night.

The newspaper reports that he had been fighting for his life since he was shot in the head while performing chores outside his Prince George's County home Tuesday around 5:20 p.m. in Hillcrest Heights.

Agnew, who said her son wanted to be an emergency room doctor, said she's floundering.

“My biggest fear is that my son will not receive justice,” she said.

She also said that if this can happen to her son, other children should be careful.

“My house is very close to the elementary school, so this could have happened to any of the kids in the neighborhood,” he said.

His family started a GoFundMe for "help with investigative and legal expenses."

“Our son Jayz was senselessly shot in the head while raking leaves in our front yard,” the family wrote. “Our Jayz is a kind and loving boy. His only feuds are with his little sister Aaliyah over video games… We won't stop until justice is served.”
