A man in police custody died while being taken to a nearby hospital. At 4:18 p.m. Monday, officers responded to numerous calls for service about a person who cut into traffic and was conducting in a disorderly manner, in the 6500 block of Amherst Avenue, Springfield. An officer found Temiki Murray, 44, of Lorton there, blocking the southbound lanes. She then tried to talk to him and guide him to the sidewalk. Murray immediately ran into traffic. The officers followed him until he stopped in a nearby parking lot, where they explained they were there to help him. Later, they handcuffed him to prevent him from getting back into traffic and he was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. But along the way, Murray suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The investigation of the case is still open.
