The National Assembly of Ecuador will evaluate this Monday the draft of the Organic Law project to guarantee the right to voluntary interruption of pregnancy in the event of rape.

The analysis of the legal project on abortion will be in charge of the Permanent Commission of Justice and Structure of the State of Parliament.

The abortion project passed its first debate in the legislative body in 2021, therefore the commission will review the new contributions for its second discussion.



As reported by the commission of the Ecuadorian parliament, the proposal was processed with the highest sense of responsibility and in strict compliance with the Constitution.

During the legislative recess, a team of advisers synthesized the contributions made to the bill in its first debate and systematized those made by experts in new appearances on the critical points of the draft.



The draft law on the interruption of pregnancy in the event of rape is the result of an opinion of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador issued in April 2021.

The proposal has the objective of guaranteeing, protecting and regulating the right of women, girls, adolescents to the legal and voluntary interruption of their pregnancy if it is the product of sexual violence with guarantees of their dignity, autonomy, in the exercise of their recognized human rights. in the Constitution and in international instruments.



The analysis of the bill is expected to last all of Monday and a vote on the report will possibly take place on Wednesday, January 12.

The vote in the plenary session of the National Assembly could be scheduled for January 20 or 25.
