Speaking this Sunday at the 41st ICAO meeting, which is based in the Canadian city of Montreal, the official recalled that Beirut is responsible for facing any risk that threatens the peace of its airspace, its population, its passengers on commercial flights and aircraft.
Hamie called on ICAO to support the Lebanese demand that its sovereignty be respected and that Tel Aviv put an end to violations that occur almost daily, he said.

According to the minister, the number of Israeli violations of his country's airspace has risen to 10,887 over the past ten years. He stressed that these hostile acts take place despite the fact that large areas of Lebanon were liberated from the Israeli occupier in the year 2000.
According to press reports, Lebanon has demanded within the United Nations (UN) that measures be taken to stop Israel's aggression. In 2020, Beirut filed a complaint against Israel with the UN for violations of its sovereignty that threaten the civilian population and undermine regional peace and stability.
In particular, missile or long-range artillery attacks against Syria have intensified since the outbreak in that country, in 2011, of a conflict promoted by the United States and other Western nations.
