Journalist Gungor Arslan murdered in Turkey

Journalist, Gungor Arslan, He died this Saturday when he was shot in front of his newspaper office in northwestern Turkey, police and local media said.

Arslandirector and editor-in-chief of the local newspaper Ses Kocaeli (The Voice of Kocaeli), was seriously injured by the shots and died shortly after in the hospital of this city.

Kocaeli police said they had arrested a suspect, but did not identify him or reveal details of the attack.

Erol Onderoglu, Turkish representative of the NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF), told AFP that Arslan had been investigating corruption in the city and had accused its mayor, from the ruling AKP party.

The journalist had already been the target of an attack and was also under investigation for his articles.

Turkey ranks 153rd in RSF’s World Press Freedom Index.
