The most viral moment of the 2022 Oscar Awards was the slap that Will Smith gave to Chris Rock during the gala. Will stood up from his seat to give the comedian a tremendous beating after making a joke mentioning his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Since the incident that was seen during the live broadcast, Will resigned from The Academy and the penalty for violating the rules of the gala was to prohibit him from approaching the ceremony for 10 years.
As many know, Jada has a talk show on Facebook Watch called “Red Table Talk” and recently premiered her new season. Many of the fans expected that the first episode would revolve around the awards incident but it did not. At the beginning of the chapter where she is invited Janelle Monaea message from Jada appears.
“Considering everything that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family is focused on deep healing,” the statement read. “Some of the discoveries surrounding our healing will be shared at the table when the time dictates.“.
The statement continued, “Until then… the table will continue to be offered to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonials like that of our first guest. Thanks for joining us, Jada.“.
A day after the controversy, Will offered a public apology to The Academy, as well as to Chris Rock.
“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior in [Premios Oscar] last night was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith wrote. “Jokes at my expense are part of my job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much to bear and I reacted emotionally“.
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I crossed the line and I was wrong, “continued the award-winning actor. “I am ashamed and my actions are not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in this world of love and kindness“.
