The independent medical foundation Gimbe recorded this Thursday that in Italy the number of fatalities from Covid-19 increased by 49.7 percent during the last week, which represents twice the number of deaths; in addition to adding 385 deaths in the last 24 hours.

According to the institution, in the past week from January 12 to 18, 2,266 deaths were reported, which doubles the 1,514 fatalities in the same preceding period.

By the way, the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 reported in nine months by the European country, was notified last Tuesday, January 18, with 434 deaths.

Meanwhile, the number of infections of the disease decreased by three percent, reporting only 1,207,689 positives, compared to 1,243,789 confirmed cases in the week prior to January 12.

Likewise, the entity confirmed that the vaccination process is progressing satisfactorily, with 83.7 percent of the population over 50 years of age immunized with at least one anticovid dose; registering a rise of 28.1 percent in the period in question.

It should be noted that this European nation is one of the countries with the highest number of fatalities from Covid-19, with 142,590 deaths since the start of the pandemic; list headed by the United States, which accumulates 857,768 deaths to date.
