It rains stuffed animals at a football match for children in Turkey

Hundreds of fans threw thousands of teddy bears and other toys to the playing field during the match between the teams Besiktas and Antalyaspor in Istanbul, as a donation to the surviving children of the earthquake in Turkey.

The event was organized by Besiktas fans as part of relief efforts for people affected by the earthquakes that hit southern Turkey.

The Turkish Super League match was stopped at 04:17 so that fans could throw gifts onto the field. The time of the break was decided to commemorate the first earthquake that struck Turkey at 04:17 a.m. local time on February 6.

“Our fans threw scarves, berets and stuffed animals on the ground at Vodafone Park to reclaimgive them to children in the region affected by the earthquake and encourage them“, declared the Besiktas team in a statement.

Soccer players and stadium workers collected the toys from the field and set them aside before applauding from the crowd.

On social media, fans used the hashtag #BuOyuncakSanaArkadasım, which means "This toy is for you, my friend." to share photos and videos of the rain of stuffed animals.

The scene was rated as “incredibly moving” by some of the users who saw the images of the event on the Internet.
