Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani stated that "the two German diplomats have been expelled due to Germany's irresponsible interference in Iran's internal and judicial affairs."
"Tehran's priority is always to maintain the interaction in an atmosphere of respect, but if some parties want to ignore our country's national sovereignty, then it is inevitable to identify alternative options," the spokesperson added.

Similarly, Kanani noted that the German ambassador in Tehran was summoned by the Director General for Western European Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform him of the measure.
Iran's decision comes after Germany expelled two Iranian diplomats on February 22 in response to the death sentence in Iran of the German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmahd, accused of leading a terrorist group.
According to the Iranian Judiciary, the accused 68-year-old citizen led a terrorist network that planned more than 20 attacks on Persian territory, of which five were executed.
