Agents of Interpol of the peruvian police arrested a Peruvian citizen accused of sexually abusing his two granddaughters in the USA.
The intervention of this 70-year-old man, identified as Gerónimo Neyra, took place at the Jorge Chávez international airport in Lima, after the US authorities issued an international arrest warrant against him.
The man had been denounced last Thursday, July 6, by one of his granddaughters, who called the 911 emergency telephone number and informed the United States Police that he had been the victim of rape by her grandfather for more than 3 years since 2020, when the little girl was only 7 years old.
Alerted by the complaint, the subject, who has lived in the United States for more than 30 years and also had American nationality since the 1980s, decided to flee to Peru to evade American justice and bought his ticket the same day.
However, after rapid coordination between the Peruvian and US justice system, Interpol Lima officers were present on Friday at the Jorge Chávez International Airport, waiting for the fugitive to arrive to be immediately arrested. An international arrest warrant had already been issued in 195 countries, including Peru.
Colonel Carlos López, head of Interpol Lima, said the suspect sexually abused his granddaughter at his home, located in Stafford County, Virginia.
Neyra is accused of the crimes of sexual abuse and assault that, in the United States, can be punished with life imprisonment.
It was also learned that the detainee already had a history of sexual assault in Virginia. During the preliminary interrogation, Gerónimo Neyra confessed that another of his granddaughters had denounced him for improper touching in 2022.
will be extradited
López informed the press that the police have already notified the United States authorities about this capture so that the judicial authority conducting the case can take the pertinent measures.
He explained that after the legal examinations, Gerónimo Neyra will be made available to the permanent duty judge in Peru, who will order his internment in a prison, while his extradition to the United States is processed, where he will be tried for sexual abuse of minors.
The head of Interpol Lima indicated that the detainee is considered a sexual predator in the United States and on him weigh three charges of assault, sexual abuse and sodomy, for which he can receive a life sentence.
