Inflation in Uruguay reaches 7.10% in May | News

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Uruguay stood at 7.10 percent last May, before an unrealistic forecast by the Government of Luis Lacalle that placed it between three to six percent.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), "the CPI of May 2023 registered a monthly variation of -0.01 percent, accumulated in the year 4.26 percent and in the last 12 months of 7.10 percent ”.

The main incidences, expressed in percentage points over the monthly variation of the index, come mainly from the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages division (-0.15), Housing (0.04) and Insurance-financial services (0.06).

The price increase in minced meat (1.01 percent) stands out, according to the report on meat and other derived products, as well as the price increase of mozzarella cheese by 3.43 percent and chicken eggs ( 2.04 percent).

In relation to fruits and nuts, the monthly variation of the index was declared at -7.67 percent, while the drop in the prices of lemons was announced at -16.26 percent, oranges (-30.26 percent) and mandarins (-15.07 percent).

"Price increases are registered in apples of 1.72 percent," indicated the INE, as well as referring that the increases in rents stand out by 0.48 percent, home taxes by 4.27 percent and the piped gas supply at 10.93 percent.

Another of the data presented by the Uruguayan organization highlights that the price increase in the private comprehensive health insurance quota increased by 3.68 percent, the mobile medical emergency quota by 1.24 percent.
