One in 12 women in the world will develop breast cancer according to the World Health Organization, while in Mexico, 7,925 women died from this condition in 2021, according to the INEGI.

In this regard, research published in the journal of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, consulted by the Obesity Data Laboratory (LabDO), warns that this type of cancer is the most common in women and warns that its prevalence is observable. both in developed and less developed countries, a phenomenon that has also been associated, in postmenopause, with overweight and obesity.

“Studies of pre- and postmenopausal women showed 31% lower rates of breast cancer in those who met specific dietary recommendations by increasing consumption of whole grain products and reducing meat and alcohol intake,” the study says.

Fiber consumption alone is related to an 8% reduction in the risk of developing breast cancer according to the American Cancer Society because “beneficial effects of a diet rich in fiber were observed on insulin sensitivity and alterations in sex hormone levels.

Also, various organizations, such as the Mayo Clinic, state that women who eat a Mediterranean diet (plant-based foods, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts, olive oil and fish), could reduce the risk of suffering from said condition.
