The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported on Friday that Hurricane Ian was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone after making landfall in South Carolina.

According to the meteorological entity, Ian maintains winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour and could generate tidal waves, flash floods and strong winds.
Through a bulletin, the NHC indicated that Ian's eye was located around 5:00 p.m. local time, 35 km northwest of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The NHC reported that during Saturday morning, the phenomenon will move towards central North Carolina and western Virginia.
Watches and advisories issued by the NHC range from northeast Florida to North Carolina.
Heavy rains are forecast with the risk of flooding, waves, strong currents in the sea, overflowing of rivers and risk of tornadoes in the areas where Ian will pass.

The NHC expects Ian to dissipate by Saturday night in western North Carolina or Virginia.
According to NHC data, in 36 hours, Ian went from a tropical storm to a category 4 hurricane, something that is attributed to climate change.
Since its formation in the central Caribbean last weekend, Ian, the fourth hurricane of 2022, has left a trail of destruction, especially in western Cuba and Florida, where there are more than 2.5 million without power, thousands continue, roads they are impassable and about 23 deaths are reported.
