Hurricane Lee advances through the Atlantic and Margot is close

Category 3 Hurricane Lee continues to advance through the northeastern Caribbean Sea this Monday while Tropical Storm Margot in the Atlantic has a high chance of becoming a hurricane during this day.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States indicated that Lee is located 590 kilometers north of the Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (km/h).

The major hurricane continues to move northwest at 13 kilometers per hour while it is forecast to remain in open waters until this Friday.

“Dangerous breaking waves and life-threatening ocean currents are affecting the northern Leeward Islands, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda,” the NHC said.

For its part, the meteorological entity noted that Margot has maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and was located about 2,000 kilometers northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.



According to forecasts, the still tropical storm is expected to become a hurricane during the course of this Monday afternoon while moving north at about 17 kilometers per hour.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicated that between 14 and 21 named storms should be reported this hurricane season, of which between 6 and 11 could become hurricanes.
