The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico reported this Wednesday that Tropical Storm Jova intensified into a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale in the Pacific.

They will announce the name of the presidential candidate of the ruling party in Mexico

In the morning, Jova was 835 kilometers (km) southeast of Playa Pérula in the state of Jalisco (west) and 970 km south of Cabo San Lucas, in the state of Baja California Sur (northwest).

The authorities predict that this hurricane will cause very heavy rains and high waves. In addition, Jova had maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of 205 km/h.

Jova emerged on Tuesday as a tropical storm and is now moving west-northwest at about 20 km/h. The SMN warned that "its cloud detachments reinforce the probability of very heavy rains to intense occasional rains in Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero."

Likewise, they asked the population to take extreme precautions in the aforementioned states due to the impact of rain, wind and waves, including maritime navigation, as well as "heed the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System."

The Mexican authorities had predicted the formation of up to 38 cyclones for the current season, of which they predicted that at least five would affect the country. This time, Jova is the tenth of this season in the Pacific that has a name.
