Human heads found in the awning of a taxi parked in Acapulco
The heads of a woman and a man, as well as other human remains, were found this weekend in different parts of the tourist Mexican port of Acapulco, authorities reported.
According to a statement from the local police on Saturday, to which AFP had access this Sunday, security agents found the heads "on the awning of a taxi", in an urban area of the port, in the troubled state of Guerrero.
About 5 km from that site, officers found "the torso of a woman and a man, as well as the arms and legs" in plastic bags, the police report added.
These last human parts could correspond to the heads found on the taxi, the report noted.
The discovery of mutilated human remains has become common in Mexico, with more than 420,000 dead and some 100,000 missing, most attributed to disputes between criminal organizations, since the launch of a controversial military anti-drug offensive in December 2006.
The mutilated bodies of at least seven men were located at the end of September in different parts of the metropolitan area of Monterrey, an industrial hub in northern Mexico and the scene of conflicts between drug traffickers that, like Acapulco, is the scene of confrontations between drug traffickers.
