The sources indicated that with the recognition delivered in a ceremony held last Tuesday in Mexico City, the life and work of the Colombian Jesuit priest was celebrated, as well as the people of Colombia.

The delivery of the doctorate also seeks to open the doors from Mexico to learning about other peacebuilding processes, to open an unprecedented space for work with the victims of violence, the media mentioned.

Born on July 5, 1943, De Roux created the Corporación Desarrollo y Paz del Magdalena Medio (CDPMM), as well as the first Peace Laboratory in Colombia. After the signing of the Agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP in 2016, he chaired the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition.

ā€œFather De Roux has traveled the most distant and forgotten places in the Colombian geography, whether in a vehicle, on foot, by canoe or on mule back, to listen to the problems of the excluded or even to mediate the release of hostages. ā€, said Eiko Gavaldón Oseki, director of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad Iberoamericana Torreón campus.

The ceremony took place within the framework of the first death anniversary of the Jesuits Javier Campos and JoaquĆn Mora, assassinated in Cerocahui, Chihuahua, in the Sierra Tarahumara, in northern Mexico.
