Hispanic, 18, charged with murder in Hyattsville, MARYLAND

The Prince George’s County Police Department located and arrested the suspect they were looking for in connection to a deadly shooting in the town of University Park in November 2021. The suspect was identified as Andres Aguilar, 18, of neighbor of University Park. He is charged in connection with the murder of Luis Miguel Utrera, 19, a resident of Hyattsville.

On November 17, 2021, at approximately 2:35 pm, officers from the University Park Police Department responded to the 4000 block of Underwood Street after receiving information of a shooting and vehicle crash. Officers found the victim unresponsive in the driver’s side of a vehicle that had struck a tree. They discovered he had been shot in the upper body and pronounced dead at the scene.

On January 19, 2022, with the help of the US Marshals Service, Aguilar was arrested and taken into custody in Washington DC. The preliminary investigation revealed that he shot the victim in the middle of a robbery related to a drug transaction. Aguilar faces charges of first and second degree murder, among others. He is in custody in Washington DC while awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
