Hispanic Nicholas Torres, 17 years old and originally from Monterey Park, was one of three teenagers who died Sunday night in a car accident in Pasadena.
Authorities have identified the victims of the mishap that occurred at approximately 8:30 pm Sunday, when a 2005 Honda car crashed on Michillinda Avenue.
The driver of the car was identified as Andyn Bae, 17, from Temple City. On Monday he would have turned 18.
Bae was accompanied by Eric Gullekson, 16, also a Temple City resident.
Both Bae and Gullekson died at the crash site.
Nicholas Torres was taken to a hospitalbut later died.
Initial reports indicated that the Honda flew off Highway 210, but later the California Highway Patrol (CHP) determined that the vehicle was actually traveling on Michillinda Avenue, south of Foothill Boulevard.
CHP research indicates that, at one point, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the concrete curb, then hit a chain-link fence and subsequently hit the freeway embankment and flipped under the freeway overpass.
Monday night, family and friends attended a candlelight vigil at the crash site.
“He was loyal. He was there for me whenever I needed him. Forever. He gave me the best advice. He was the best at everything he tried to do,” Bae’s friend Igy Watkins told ABC.
investigations still do not determine whether alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in the accident.
