Green Party asks to combat discrimination against older adults

A recent report from the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred) revealed that disability, health conditions and age are the three main causes why people are discriminated against and, according to the organization, 40 percent of older adults live in poverty.

Given this reality, the Green Party in the Senate urged the National Institute of Older Persons (Inapam) and Conapred itself to issue a report on the actions implemented in terms of non-discrimination and inclusion, in order to have better bases to act in favor of adults greater.

The Senator María Graciela Gaitán Díaz indicated that job opportunities for older people are scarce, and that according to data from the National Survey on Discrimination (Enadis) 2022, two out of every nine people between 18 years of age and older think that it is justified to deny employment to an older person. Elderly.

The environmental legislator regretted the lack of opportunities for this sector of the population and said that, if they find employment, they do so in precarious conditions, with lower salaries and no benefits.

For this reason, the Green Party insisted on the need to implement actions in order to guarantee older adults a life without discrimination.
